The story is narrated by Klara, an Artificial Friend (AF), designed to serve as a companion for children in a future society deeply shaped by automation and social stratification. Klara is an observant, solar-powered robot with an extraordinary ability to perceive and interpret human emotions. Her perspective, both insightful and naive, offers a lens through which the complexities of human interactions and ethical choices are explored.
